| Backstory?: The Fallen Star (first post) Story So Far: - Spoiler:
Day 1(A Chance Meeting - Page 1): Wandering through the forest, she was greeted by the witch Adrianna, master of the Sanctuary. Adrianna welcomed her as a new guest and found out about her missing memories. She agreed to let Adrianna help uncover them. The witch swiftly broke the first Lock of her memory, but in a moment of carelessness, unleashed upon her the dreadful side effect of the magical lock. She fell unconscious from the pain, all she could know was that the witch caused it. With deep regret, Adrianna healed her and placed her into bed.
Day 2(A Chance Meeting - Page 1 to Page 9): Spending the remainder of the first night awake, the girl became lost in fearful thoughts. In the morning, she was visited by Ix and Adri, who both cheered her up and convinced her to go have breakfast with them. Not wanting her to feel bad without a name, Ix proposed she be called Aura, a name the girl gladly accepted.
At the kitchen, Aura was introduced to Ix's sisters: Dixi and Tix, as well as a particularly curious kitsune by the name of Jennifer. The people of Sanctuary soon learned a crucial detail about Aura: she did not need to eat or drink. Now comfortable with everyone, Aura agreed to have her memories looked upon once more. With another resounding success, Adrianna unlocked her second sealed memory, depicting a much later point of her life than the first.
It was not over yet. Following the second tampering of her memories, Aura's body became possessed by an entity known as Draja who delivered a grave warning to anyone who would further attempt to peer into her mind. This left Aura in a state of emotional turmoil as tension rose around her after the event. Crying, she ran back to her room, intent on leaving Sanctuary.
However, Ix did not let her go without saying her piece - and that was just enough for Aura to reconsider. After a heartfelt moment alone with Ix, the girl admitted to wanting to belong somewhere, with the residents of Sanctuary welcoming her with open arms.
Aura would not get her rest just yet, as a dreadful feeling overcame her the very next moment. The feeling she could only describe as 'Midara', the threat from her memories; a feeling that would grow closer and more intense every day. Adrianna once again delved into the girl's mind in order to find the source of this feeling. Her regular memories were conflicting, an eerie feeling hung around them, which only escalated as she stumbled upon the girl's first memory: a dark and horrifying room. The witch's search, despite everything, yielded some results: Aura was linked spiritually with another being, likely the one she was sensing. It appeared that the closer it got, the better she could sense it.
During all of this, Jennifer's midara side, the one known as Tam, took great interest in Aura, seeing her as a kindred spirit. Showing an unusual amount of care, Tam comforted Aura throughout all of the rituals that took place and offered her some valuable insight on her condition, as well as support. In a short time, Aura began to see Tam as a person that could truly understand her and decided to take her advice to heart: She would unlock her memories and reconnect with her true self. Description: A young woman lied amidst the dark. Her long golden hair would make her stand out of any crowd, along with properly defined curves and proportions like a perfectly-sculpted mannequin. With eyes of entrancing jade she looked at the world around her. There was someone else there, she heard him call out to her; not anymore. The sun caressed her soft exposed skin, not unlike a spotlight focusing on the main actor. For she was no one and an actor was all she ever could be. Her name was... She did not remember. Nothing but pain came up every time she tried to. The thing she crawled out of was as alien to her as to the rest of the world. In contrast, everything else was oozing familiarity. As bizarre a thought as that which followed, the girl imagined the day she would look back at this moment where it all started: with her naked self wandering through the forest, every step a new discovery. Passives: A memory lost to time: She remembers nothing of her life up until leaving the celestial body. With time, memories may come back to her as the results of both her actions and the ones beyond her control. New passives and abilities can be discovered. The Five Locks of Draja: One's attempt to pry open into her mind will be met with fierce resistance. A spell upon which no one had lied their gaze before. Five Locks, each stronger than the last await those who would foolishly attempt to dig up what was meant to be buried. - Unsealing the First Lock: two rolls are required, either one can be even or above 50 to succeed. - Memory Unlocked:
A grand hallway, pristine and polished to a sheen. In the middle of it, a man stood next to an empty, bronze pedestal. He wore an elegant white trench coat with golden threads sewn into it. He appeared to be almost in the middle ages, with his hair still maintaining it's natural auburn color along with his short beard and mustache.
He was facing the entrance, expecting someone... And there she was, the beautiful maiden with hair of gold; looking not one bit different than her sleeping self except for her clothing, which was identical to the man's. She held a golden, ornate vase. Very careful not to drop it, she ran over to the man with the tense expression.
"There!" she put the vase on the pedestal. "See? Stella fixed it!
The girl's cheerful smile was cut short by his still uneasy figure. "Did you properly thank her?"
"I..." her gaze fell downwards. "I forgot."
The man's face twisted with anger, if only for a moment. She dared not look upon his visage.
"How many times must I tell you?" he raised her chin up. "We kneel and show our hands to those that do us good to signify that our hands are theirs to use. Every favor must be repaid. Now go back to her and do it properly this time."
"Yes, father." she said with joy gone from her voice.
"You would do well to honor your name. Yours is the name that binds you, and binds others to you. Do not ever forget the meaning and power of your name..."
- Unsealing the Second Lock: two rolls are required, either one can be even or above 75 to succeed, but not below 15 - Memory Unlocked:
Night befell the palace of pearl. Moonlight shone through the open window of an immaculate white room. It lacked objects commonly found in rooms, especially one as spacious as that. A single bed of a dark, wooden frame was covered in white sheets. Besides a mirror and a drawer, it was the only object filling that large, empty space. And on that bed sat a girl and her servant.
"And you are all set, my Lady." said a woman wearing a black, plain gown with a white apron over it.
She carefully prepared her Lady's appearance, applying the right amount of make-up, as well as adjusting her golden, wavy hair.
"Thank you, Stella." the maiden replied, prompting a warm smile from the maid. Her thoughts then shifted to the near future, along with her expression.
"My Lady, is something wrong?" Stella asked, more being customary rather than out of ignorance.
"I'm fine. There is no need to worry about me." she reciprocated the smile.
Their conversation was interrupted by two knocks. By the looks on their faces, it appeared they both knew who, precisely, needed entry into her room. Stella rose up quickly and pried open the door.
"Lord Draja!" she bowed to the one on the other side. "Is there something you require?"
"I require entrance to my daughter's chamber." a deep voice answered, prompting the servant so swiftly side-step away from the door. "Now excuse us, Stella."
The maid vanished on his word, leaving the man with his child. His tone was as stern as ever, despite time starting to show its mark on him in the form of grayed-out hair. The girl, however, seemed to not have aged at all.
The man known as Draja approached his daughter, his imposing posture slowly fading away as he sat alongside her. His dark eyes locked onto hers.
"Nervous?" he asked in a calm voice.
The girl nodded, looking down at her held-together hands. "This is… I haven't done anything like this before."
The man gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "I know how this feels." he said, a slight grin showing beneath his moustache. "I, too, was once in your position. I was even smaller than you at the time."
"What happened? Did you succeed?" she asked. As redundant a question as it may have been, she needed to hear everything.
"My mother had left me alone on the deed." he reminisced, a melancholic tone accompanied his words. "I really did not do the best that was required of me that day... Far from it. But I did not let it end in failure, I did not let that bring me down.
"And neither should you." his tone turned into a hopeful one. "It is not the end if you fail, my child. It is only the end when you give up."
Her lips slightly curved into a faint smile. "Will you be there for me?"
"Of course."
She walked over to the window. Outside, a wave of people expanded as far as the eye could see. "So many… all of their eyes… on me."
Draja joined her, looking at his subjects with a weary eyes. "Yes, they will be. Your name holds power beyond imagination. The power to bring peace where war once raged. The power to hold everyone together in the face of the Midara threat. That is why they watch you. There is no one more important than you in the world."
Even from up there, their gaze pierced her soul. This task, this responsibility, this impossible burden… How could she stand the judgement of thousands?
"Take your time." her father slowly walked towards the door, before pausing. "Whenever you are ready, I am waiting for you outside."
The golden wave rushed past this memory as well. Images became blurry, words distorted. Before it ended, the fragments of one last phrase lingered on.

This passive nullifies mental attacks that target memory, as long as ??? is willingly resisting. Abilities: Cowering Defense: Raising her hands for protection, she reduces damage taken by 1 for the next turn. This has no effect on abilities without physical contact. - A critical roll results in her defense lasting for 2 turns. She may perform a different ability or remain on the defensive, rolling for Cowering Defense again. The damage reduction stacks up to three times. - During the second roll, missing would mean her damage reduction stays at 1 and disappears at the end of the enemy turn. - A critical second roll would have the ability reduce damage by 2 points, as well as carrying over to the next turn. - A critical fail second roll would negate the damage reduction that carried over from last turn. Uncertain Offense: A desperate hit by one lacking any direction or expertise. Deals 1 stamina damage. High Kick: A surprisingly precise kick aimed at an opponent's head. Deals 2 stamina damage and inflicts the Dazed status effect: Character must roll two successes instead of one in order to hit. This effect lasts for one turn. | |
