Yorokobi Prison Empty
PostSubject: Yorokobi Prison   Yorokobi Prison EmptyWed May 05, 2021 3:02 pm

Backstory
The player wakes up in the middle of a bustling town, completely unaware of where they are or how they got there. After asking around, they learn that they are trapped in what is referred to as Yorokobi Prison, a place people who have been a nuisance to mirada are trapped and that the only way to escape is to make it through all the zones of it which are filled with mirada prepared to stop them.

Mechanics
Vigor: These act as the player's will to continue. Each player starts with 3 Vigor unless otherwise stated, and will lose 1 Vigor for each defeat they suffer, unless otherwise stated, with there being few ways to regain or increase the Vigor they have. Once a player loses 3 Vigor, it is game over for them, ending their attempts to escape permanently.

Eros: These act as the player's currency, which can be used to purchase items, services and to bribe opponents out of encounters. The player starts with 1000 Eros.

Shopping: Before entering a zone, players have a chance to purchase items before. Under the details for each zone, there will be a list of items purchasable, with players being able to purchase items from the zone they are challenging and any zones they have completed.

Equipment and Usables: There are two types of items, equipment and usable. Usable items are a one-time use item that is available at any time but does take up an action if in battle. Equipment is an item that players can equip for a permanent buff/ability. Players can only equip one at a time and can only change equipment at resting points or while in town.

Bribes and Bargaining: During a battle, some mirada may be willing to make a deal with the player, who may try to pay them to leave with Eros or attempt to strike a deal with them, a usual take and give deal, such as the mirada not using a specific ability and in return the player won't use a specific ability. Bribes and bargains have many factors in determining if they will work or not, such as the player's and the mirada's health, the number of turns into battle they are, and the fairness/price of the bargain or bribe.

Progression: Once the player starts their escape attempt, the player rolls an encounter roll and a progress roll. On reaching X progress, which is determined by which zone they are in, the player finds a boss. Every three rolls outside of battle, the player will gain access to a resting point to save their progress in case they are defeated.

Resting Points: Once the player reaches a resting point, they are given five choices of what to do.
1. Continue advancing through the zone, recovering 0 willpower.
2. Take a brief rest, recovering 5 willpower, and has a low chance of an encounter.
3. Take a rest, recovering 10 willpower, and has a chance of an encounter.
4. Take a long rest, recovering 15 willpower, and has a high chance of an encounter.
5. Return to town and rest in a hotel, recovering all willpower, but costing Eros, with the price determined by the amount of willpower recovering.

Quests: These act as the primary way to gain Eros and a way to gain items. When a player is in town, they pick a quest from a questing board for them to attempt. Three quests are given for each zone they have completed or are currently in at a time, with new quests appearing each time they have left the town and defeated at least 1 opponent. Quests have a range of difficulties, with harder quests giving better rewards for completion. Players can only challenge one quest at a time. Examples of quests are "Defeat X enemy X amount of times" or "Defeat X boss while only using basic attacks and items".

Zone #1 - Misty Forest
The area surrounding the starting town is a forest that is filled with plant-like and animal-like mirada. There are dense fogs that pass through the forest now and then, with them more common the further into the forest players adventure.

Zone Details and Mechanics
Progression Required: 5

Rolling Fog - As the player progresses through the zone, they are destined to come upon a thick fog. Along with progress and encounter rolls, while in the Misty Forest, fog rolls are required as well. Fog rolls consist of 5 numbers, with 5 minus X rolls needing to be a success for the player to find themselves in a fog, with X being the amount of progress the player has made. When in a fog, progress rolls are done with disadvantage, players are more likely to be ambushed by mirada, and ranged attacks are done with disadvantage. Fog will disperse at every Resting Point that the player does some sort of rest at.

Purchasable Items:

This was greatly inspired by Weatherkeep's The Echo Forest, so a majority of the credit goes to them on the mechanics.
To not clutter up this post, enemy encounters will not be posted with it, rather they are contained and organized within this spreadsheet.
This is not in a state for playing yet, I just wanted to post this to get the hype up for it.
Given the quest system, grinding for Eros and items is possible, and I don't discourage that, but I'll have my focus be on RPs that are going for progression so some days I may only be posting on those.

So, a question that's mostly for curious me: What stops the player from leaving? is it Physical or Magical or something else?

The short answer to your question is plot. The longer and more detailed answer is that there is magic stopping players from leaving through magical means and there are the zones filled with mirada to try stopping them physically.
