Flynn vs Sonya

Having found the source of the disappearances plague the kingdom. The party of Flynn, Mei-Mei, and Test arrived at the capitol.

"You sure you don't want to come with us to see the queen?" Mei-Mei asked as she poked the mage in the cheek.

“It sounds like a hassle, but from how much I doubt you ability to accurately describe what we found out, I guess I’ll tag along,” He sighed, stepping slightly out of her poking range.

Test really didn't understand Flynn's hesitation to see the queen. But having everyone present would be nice for the report. He tried to subtlety hurry everyone along. The sooner they got this report in to the queen the sooner he could go be with Reisen.

"Have some faith in me." Mei-Mei said with a pout as she followed along behind Test. "There's more to me than my great pair of legs."

“Sure there is, but I’m pretty sure that isn’t your brain,” Flynn replied as he followed Test as well.

Test ignored the arguing couple. He was pretty sure he knew what this kind of petty hostility meant.

Mei-Mei continued to throw remarks at Flynn until the group arrived at the gates to the castle.

As they traveled, Flynn did his best to counter every of her remarks, before taking a moment to check out the exterior of the caste.

Test gave a happy sigh as he looked up at the familiar edifice. "It's good to be home." He said. After weeks on the road sleeping in his own bed was a tantalizing prospect.

A woman in very revealing armor rushed out to meet the group.

"Test, Mei-Mei!" she greeted. "You've returned! I hope your hunt was successful. Who is this with you? Is he the scoundrel responsible for the attacks?"

“Do I look like a villain to you?” He asked after seeing the woman’s reaction to him and remembering Mei-Mei asking a similar thing.

"This is Flynn. He helped us defeat the monster causing the disappearances." Test explained.

"A little bit, yes." Sonya admitted sheepishly.

Mei-Mei barked out a laugh and patted Flynn on the back. "Look on the bright side, at least she got your gender right on the first try."

"Flynn was it?" Sonya asked after listening to Test's explanation. "I am Sonya, First of the Queen's knights. On behalf of her Majesty, Queen Charlotte, allow me to thank you for services rendered to her kingdom."

"We have quite the report to give her highness. Do you know if she is busy?" Test asked the senior knight.

“Again, don’t patronize me,” Flynn sighed to Mei-Mei’s reactions, before responding to Sonya, “It was hardly anything, especially compared to the hassle of dealing with Mei-Mei.”

"She wishes she was. She's beside herself with worry and longs for something to distract her." Sonya told Test before she turned her attention to Flynn. "Saving the good people of this fair kingdom is 'hardly anything'."

“We haven’t saved anyone yet, only delayed their capture so far,” Flynn sighed.

"That's why this report is so important. The creature escaped, weakened and wounded, but still alive. I have brought a sample for Val that I hope we can use to track it." Test told Sonya, rather undermining the mood. "I hope knowing that can provide her highness some comfort."

"Then we have no time to waste!" Sonya said seriously before she turned around and ran into the castle.

"Wait up!" Mei-Mei called out as she ran after the knight.

Test followed after his co-workers. Moving as fast as his feet would carry him.

Flynn sighed as he tried to catch up with them, even though he knew he couldn’t.

The group soon arrived at the throne room to see the queen restlessly pacing about. He eyes lit up at the sudden intrusion. "Welcome back, my knights. Was your mission a success?" she asked hopefully.

"Partially." Mei-Mei admitted. "We found the bad guy, but they managed to slip through our fingers."

"But we wounded them. So hopefully they won't do anymore damage for a while. Also we may have found a way to track them down and defeat them for good." Test said, front loading the good news.

“But realistically, with the recovery abilities it showed, it is probably back in action right now,” Flynn sighed, still in the process of recovering from the running.

Test shot Flynn an annoyed glance. He was probably right, but the mage could at least try to be optimistic.
